Week 17 -- The End
And so it goes -- Chris Jenkins wins the overall Pigskin Pickem' title for the 2005 season. Trailing by three games after PJ failed to get his picks in the previous week, Chris made it academic by winning outright with ten victories. As the only one to take Green Bay and one of two to take the Browns Chris tied with second place overall James to win the week and secure the season's bragging rights.
Meanwhile PJ collapsed like USC, unable to finish victorious, unable to keep the other guys from scoring, only getting four picks correct (tied with someone else we will not mention by name.)
The irony is that all of us have teams to root for in the playoffs (except for Chris) with the Redskins, Giants, Patriots, Panthers , Seahawks and Bears advancing into the second season. As for Chris' employer, well he may not be in the correct demographic (80+) to work there much longer -- though I would expect his retirement package to improve.
As for the College Bowl Season, James managed to win that with most points and tied Craig for the most overall wins. And yes, I managed to finish in last place in that competition as well, though I actually got one more game right then Jeff -- not sure how happy I should be about that. At least Fantasy Baseball season is only a few weeks away.
No real trend emerged from the bowl games. The PAC-10 was overrated with Oregon and USC both losing. The top Big-10 and Big-12 teams did well, but their other teams struggled. The SEC also had a mix of winners (Florida, LSU) and losers (Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina) The ACC was similarly mixed with Virginia and VA Tech, and BC winning and Ga Tech losing (and I don't want to talk about what happened to Miami).
No we turn to other things -- NFL playoffs of course, Hockey perhaps, College Hoops -- though Flood may have to miss some of the early tip-offs if he continues to attend Mass and brunch with his girlfriend and her family. Apparently there is a professional basketball league too, but I cannot firm that. As for me, I plan to continue to my growth as a English Premier League Soccer Fan -- go Liverpool! And maybe let Martha watch some Lifetime on the TV too.
