2007 Season Predictions
With the start of the 2007 season upon us, we are out of time for preparing our predictions for the 2007 NFL season.
The NFL Season is tricky -- the league promotes parity and, because schedules are unbalanced, surprise teams show up in the playoffs each and every year.
This year the AFC seems to be by far the more dominant league. Any of the top AFC teams would run roughshod in any one of the NFC divisions. The Bills would go 11-5 at least if they could move themselves to the NFC West, the Pats 14-2 in the NFC North.
AFC Division Winners:
Patriots -- just because Tom Brady is not a good boyfriend doesn't make him a bad QB.
Colts -- I don't expect them to win the Super Bowl again, but especially with the Jags QB issues who else is there?
Bengals -- Carson Palmer will continue to develop, while some other key players will get out of jail
Broncos-- Even with LT Chargers will take a step back (This is Norv Turner we are talking about) while the Broncos will feature a stout D and running game to take the pressure off Jay Cutler
NFC Division Winners
Eagles--they'll still boo McNabb when he loses a home game though
Packers -- can you name any of the Packers skill position players? Neither can Brett Favre -- but they have a solid defense and good line play; their closest rival in the conference is starting Rex Grossman and Cedric Benson
Saints -- I realize this is the Chalk pick and I think this is the toughest division to handicap as any of the 4 teams could be 5-11 or 11-5 and you couldn't call it a surprise, but we'll be watching Reggie Bush take the next step forward
Rams -- the opposite from the Packers -- if you play Fantasy Football then you know they are the only team with players taken in the top 5 at QB, RB and WR; I don't know who plays defense for them but they'll score enough in their division games that it will not matter.
Super Bowl -- we'll go with the Packers over the Broncos. Sure it is a feel good ending for Brett Favre but why not.
Feel free to post your own predicitions.
For this weeks games on the Pick'em, we'll give the points and take Dallas over the Giants on Sunday night and we'll take the Packers and the points at home to Philly. Should make Philly Sports radio that much more fun to listen too on Monday morning (there are three Sports Radio stations in the City of Brotherly Love -- does any other city have that many?)
Make it a good week

Jono...
While I appreciate the love for the Pack, I think you must be high. I actually do think they could win the division, simply because people won't kick to Devin Hester this year and the Bears' offense sucks...of course, they could also go 5-1l. They have that little margin for error. But beating out the Saints or anyone else in playoffs????
And when was the last time Shanahan won a playoff game? No Elway, no wins.
Norm
P.S. I like New England--New Orleans myself. And I actually think the Falcons could sneak into the playoffs this year, despite my reservations about Joe Harrington (I've decided that it's that everyone calls him Joey that has been the problem)at QB, he was actually decent with a much worse team (Miami) last year, so I think he will be OK.
Jono,
I admire your boldness, but I agree with Norm as regards the dangerously high level of intoxicants in your system. I'll go with New England over Philly. The AFC has a lot of great teams, but in the end it'll be just too much Wes Welker.
As for my perennial Super Bowl pick, the Panthers, I'll be thrilled if they just make the playoffs. The OL is a mess, the defense is overrated, and we don't have anybody besides Steve Smith who can catch a gently thrown ball right in the hands.
Best of luck to everybody this year in the pickems!
