Blasting like Blackwater

Jeff's 12 win week -- the season high thus far -- gave him the weekly honors and catapulted him to a one game lead in the overall standings.

And yes, I am aware that I had the worst showing of the week (along with PJ) -- well us and Ahmadinejad . It must be something in the air in NY/NJ.

It was another interesting week for the league as Pittsburgh rolled (thanks for telling me, the only one to take the Niners) on the assumption that the Steelers hadn't played anyone good. Apparently neither had SF.

Most of you stuck by the "take the double digit points maxim" and got burned as the Pats destroyed the Bills. The only explanation I have is that Coach Nixon still had his videotapes of the Buffalo defensive signals. Certainly the Bills ineptitude on both sides of the ball compounded by injuries cannot be to blame.

New Orleans is officially the most overrated pre-season pick. To make their 0-3 record worse, two of their losses have come on national television.

Meanwhile Tampa Bay continued their revival this time dominating the Rams -- another simply bad team.

The Giants salvaged not just the game but probably their season, for now, as they dropped 21 unanswered points in the second half against a Redskins team all of us had taken, giving 4.5 to boot.

Not only did I have a terrible week, but Lock of the Week is on a two game losing streak having fallen into the "Obvious Game" trap that Bill Simmons elucidated in his ESPN.com column last week as the Broncos not only failed to cover but got beat at home by what had appeared to be a pedestrian Jags team.

Our one consolation of course, is the Packers inexorable run to the Super Bowl continued with a 31-24 defeat against the Chargers. Once again the Favres found a way to win a game they should have lost.

This week offers a number of interesting games, with 9 of the 14 games featuring home dogs.

Atlanta and Buffalo (who swept the Jets last year) will both try to get their first win of the season at home as underdogs.

Philly heads up the turnpike for Sunday Night's game against the Giants -- the good news for their fans is that one of those teams will be 500 when the night is through. (well unless they tie).

On Monday Night, New England will continue to try and blast their way through the league like Blackwater Security in Iraq, as they take on the Bengals.

Pittsburgh puts their 3-0 record on the line in the desert (where, let me remind you, strange things happen) .

LotW, it's confidence shaken but not shattered, is trying to look beyond the obvious to get a winning streak going. Maybe we watched too much Hard Knocks on HBO, maybe we watched two many seasons of Norv Turner coaching the 'Skins. Whatever it is, we'll take the Chiefs +12.5 against the Chargers.

Make it a good week.
