Kanye vs. Fifty

Norm and I find ourselves along Kanye -- having won the week with ten wins. Hyman's nine wins puts him in second place for the week (just like Fifty). Still that was more then enough to give Hyman the early overall lead.

BTW, Kenny Chesney trailed the two rappers badly, although his sales total of 367,000 was the highest for a country release in over a year it was slightly more then a third of what Kanye sold for the week. Norm still insists that his total sales will surpass the current leaders -- we'll see.

In response to Hyman's question, Arctic Monkeys sold 225,000 their first week (I think that was in the UK where they debuted at Number 1 -- pretty good for an Indie band.)

I enjoy the first album but haven't checked out Favorite Worst Nightmare yet. I'm too busy listening to the new Kanye and M.I.A.

On the field, the question of the week has to be which coach will be fired first? Both Tom Coughlin (the early favorite) and Andy Reid have to be in considerable danger of getting the axe if things do not improve soon for their 0-2 teams.

Both teams getting double-digit points beat the number last week -- something to keep in mind when deciding on that Bills +15.5 at Pats pick this week.

The Texans announced that they are for real, while we all (except for Flapper the only one to take the Bucs) learned that the Saints are back to playing like the New Orleans teams we all know and love -- that is to say poorly -- instead of a team most picked to win the NFC South handily. It turns out that the games, not pre-season records predictions, are what the NFL uses in deciding playoff teams.

And once again, strange things happened in the desert as the Cards bested the Seahawks in the Valley of the Sun.

And of course the Packers continued their inexorable march to the Super Bowl with a thrashing of the NY Football Giants in the swamps of New Jersey.

Lock of the Week fell to 2-1 as the Bengals lost -- not just failed to cover but lost -- to the Browns 51-45. The Bengals defense may have been the only thing on TV to look worse then Britney Spears last week.

This week LotW will take Denver -3.5 at altitude against the Jags.

I would also like to take this opportunity to second Bill Simmons' call for everyone to watch Friday Night Lights you can download the shows here for free. Yes it can be cheesy (its Network TV) but it has sports, sex, and family drama that you and your SO will both enjoy. With Sopranos gone it is the only thing (besides Sesame Street, Backyardigans and Liverpool Soccer) that we DVR.

Make it a good week.

How is it that the only people I want to spread the word to about FNL already watch it?? Definitely my fav show on network TV or Basic Cable. A show that is also worth a look is "Damages" on FX, however.
